Police Rescue 8 Tourists off the Coast of Sihanoukville During Rough Seas

SIHANOUKVILLE: Eight European tourists were rescued at sea after their boat engine gave out and began to sink in rough seas near Koh Tres. Southeast Asian seas are notoriously rough during monsoon season and the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology warned about the storms and high winds just last week.

Sihanoukville authorities said that a total of eight foreign tourists were stranded on a sinking boat near Koh Tres off the coast of Sihanoukville around 7 pm on September 4.

According to authorities, eight European tourists rented a wooden boat to go fishing near the island on the morning of September 4. That evening, the boat’s engine broke down during unfavorable weather as they were passing Koh Tres and the boat began to sink. They immediately reported their situation to authorities, who immediately sent two high-speed boats to rescue the foreign tourists that returned them to the mainland. All passengers were rescued without injury.
